A Fifteen Year Reunion

So a point has been raised that 2008 actually marks 15 years since graduation. We could take lots of time to plan and have a 15 year reunion. Or does Mark raise a good point in his previous comment...will people lose interest waiting more than a year for a reunion? On one hand it gives lots of time to plan and locate fellow classmates. On the otherhand, people seem really excited about a reunion so maybe sooner is better than later. So I put it out to all of you, are the masses thinking lets be different and have a 14 year reunion or would you like to see this become a 15 year reunion?

The floor is open....discuss....

I am a little split on this one...

The summer isn't too far away and we are just starting to drum up interest in this thing....I kind of wonder if we would be able to contact enough people and put a good reunion together that quickly.

On the other hand Mark is right, it might loose momentum which would be kind of sad.

I am for the 2008 thing though. That would give us time to get a group of people together to organize the thing, contact the masses etc...

Unless we plan a winter reunion. Maybe even a New Years party?? Split the difference (2007/2008). This may make it more likely people will com,e from out of town if they have a chance to visit family.
Otherwise, I am for summer 2008.

Considering there were so many graduates from our year, I think have a 15 year reunion in 2008 would be better. This would give us more time to get stuff together. I'm thinking if we keep the dialog going we shouldn't have an issue with keeping people motivated.

I do think we will need to start a list with everyone's contact information so far. Plus start trying to get information for people who haven't been contacted yet. This way we will have a way of contacting people through emial/phone as things progress.

Most people have probably received some type of classmates [SPAM] email, but it might give us a good start at who's around. link

I'm on board with a 15 year reunion. More time to plan and make this thing something more than a case of beer in an open field!

I was thinking about the Classmates thing too. There are quite a few registered from our year and I'm sure at least some of them are in contact with others.

On the contacts list. Matt - can we get an email sent from the hotmail account asking people to send their contact info. Any volunteers to pull it together on a spreadsheet or database? Mark???!?!?

Sure...I will send out an e-mail asking for contact info from anyone interested. Hopefully we will get a response!

I'll also set up an online form someplace, most likely my eclipz.ca domain. When I've set that up we can send out an email and have people fill out that form for all their info, ex email, address, phone.

From there, there's a few things can be done but for starters the info could just get sent to myself to organize. I'll also try to find our grad yearbook and start a list of who's information we have and who we still have to try to get a hold of.

Like the 2008 idea. It would probably be hard to try to rent venues in Selkirk at such a late date anyways. As mentioned having a year to plan means that there is opportunity to pull off a fantastic reunion as opposed to (as Trish says) a case of beer in a field...although sometimes that works too!

2008 works for me... plenty of time to plan and plenty of warning for people that want to come but have to travel from out of province. Seeing as how I do it for living I can help try tracking people down.

Dan Kell here, it looks like the majority of the comments are for 2008, but I also think we should start talking about events. I have never been to a high school reunion, but I would guess it would involve a social, family picnic day and a golf tournament. I will be willing to co-lead the golf thing as I don't think I will have the time to commit to organize the whole thing.

Maybe we should also set up a time for people who are interested in setting this up to get together in the next few months in order to assign some tasks.

Right on...good to see people are starting to talk!

So....based on what I am reading so far I am thinking that the summer of 2008 would be the logical choice based on the amount of time we have.

Mark...your ideas sound good. I would be willing to help out with hunting people down if you want to lead it...it sounds like Cam is interested as well. I think you have our e-mail addresses if you want to chat about a game plan. Anybody else interested in helping out on this one?

Thanks for volunteering to co-lead something Dan. I would also be willing to co-lead something...but I am not fussy so I will wait a bit and see what's left over before I through my hat in the ring.

Anybody have a suggestion on weekend activities other than the three suggested so far?

Hey folks, glad to see this thing is beginning to move in the right direction! The summer of 2008 works out much better for me and gives us much more time to get things in order. I am willing to help out where I can so if there is anything needed to be done, please give me a heads up!

Cheers, Shane Matson

Hey Everyone!

Excited to know that things are in the works, and Summer 2008 sounds great to me.

I haven't really kept in touch with many people from highschool unfortunately, but looking forward to seeing you all again!

I'm available to help out with anything, so just let me know!!
